1. Introduction
Welcome to Microactivists.
Microactivists is an application and service that allows users to track walking and cycling activities, estimate the environmental impact of those activities, and receive activity-based rewards.
This Privacy Policy explains how Microactivists collects, uses, stores, protects, and deletes information when you use the Microactivists Android application, website, and related services.
By using Microactivists, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how your information is handled, you can contact us using the contact information provided in the Contact Us section below.
2. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use Microactivists, we may collect the following categories of information.
2.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we may collect:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your user/account identifier
- Authentication information necessary to securely access your account
Your password is not stored in plain text. Authentication credentials are protected using password hashing and appropriate security mechanisms.
2.2 Location Information
Microactivists uses location information to track walking and cycling activities.
When you start an activity and grant the required Android location permissions, the application may collect precise location information from your device while the activity is being tracked.
Location information may include:
- Latitude
- Longitude
- Location timestamps
- Location points associated with an activity
Location information is used to:
- Track walking and cycling activities
- Calculate activity distance
- Validate recorded activities
- Detect potentially invalid or fraudulent activity
- Calculate estimated CO₂ savings
- Calculate activity rewards
Microactivists does not request ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION and does not intentionally collect location information continuously when you are not recording an activity.
Location tracking is intended to operate while an activity is actively being recorded through the application’s foreground location tracking functionality.
You can control location permissions through your Android device settings.
2.3 Activity Information
When you record a walking or cycling activity, Microactivists may collect and store information associated with that activity, including:
- Activity type
- Distance
- Start and finish information
- Activity timestamps
- Location data associated with the activity
- Activity validation status
- CO₂ savings calculations
- Reward information
The server is responsible for the authoritative calculation of activity distance, CO₂ savings, and rewards.
Information recorded by the application locally may also be temporarily stored on your device to support activity tracking and offline synchronization.
2.4 Rewards and Token Information
Microactivists records information required to calculate and display activity rewards.
Based on verified activity distance, the service calculates environmental impact and activity rewards according to the current Microactivists reward formula.
Reward and token-related information may include:
- Reward amounts
- Token balances
- Reward transaction records
- Activity-to-reward relationships
- Wallet and ledger records
Microactivists activity rewards are based on verified activity and are not intended to represent a promise of financial return, investment performance, or guaranteed monetary value.
2.5 Information You Submit Through the Website
If you contact Microactivists through the website contact form, we may collect information that you voluntarily provide, such as:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your message
- Any other information that you choose to include in your message
This information is used to respond to your inquiry and provide customer support. A first-party security challenge may be used to help prevent automated abuse; the challenge answer is verified server-side and is not stored with your message.
2.6 App Installation Registration
When the Android application is launched, Microactivists may register a lightweight installation record with the backend. This may include:
- An application-generated random installation identifier (UUID)
- App version
- Platform (for example, Android)
- First-seen and last-seen timestamps
- Association with your account after you log in
This identifier is generated by the application and is not a hardware identifier such as IMEI, device serial number, phone number, or advertising ID. Installation registration is used for operational statistics about launched installations and is not a Google Play download count.
2.7 Technical and Security Information
When you use our website or services, technical information may be processed as part of normal server and application operation.
Depending on the configuration of the service, this may include information such as:
- IP address
- Request information
- Authentication and security events
- Server logs
- Error and diagnostic information
- Website session information necessary for forms and security (including CSRF protection and first-party security challenges)
Such information may be used for security, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, service operation, and maintenance.
Microactivists does not intentionally collect advertising identifiers or use advertising SDKs for targeted advertising unless this Privacy Policy is updated to reflect such a change.

4. Location Data
Location data is an important part of the Microactivists activity-tracking functionality.
Microactivists requests location permission because walking and cycling distance cannot be accurately determined without location information.
When you start an activity and grant location permission, the application may use precise GPS/device location information to record your route and calculate distance.
Location information may be transmitted to the Microactivists backend so that the server can:
- Process the activity
- Validate the activity
- Calculate authoritative distance
- Calculate CO₂ savings
- Calculate rewards
- Detect potentially fraudulent or manipulated activity
Microactivists does not request Android’s ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION permission.
The application is designed to use foreground location tracking while an activity is actively being recorded.
You may revoke location permission at any time through your Android device settings. Revoking the permission may prevent you from recording activities that require location tracking.
5. How We Share Information
Microactivists does not sell your personal information.
We may share or allow access to information only when necessary to operate and protect the service.
This may include the following categories of service providers:
Hosting and Infrastructure Providers
Microactivists may use hosting and infrastructure providers to operate the website, API, database, and related services.
These providers may process information on our behalf as necessary to provide the infrastructure used by Microactivists.
Email Service Providers
Where an external email delivery service is configured, limited information necessary to deliver transactional emails may be processed by that provider.
For example, this may include your email address and information required to deliver password-reset or account-related emails.
